Cross Sector Relationships

Closing the Achievement Gap

The Public Intersection Project was an outgrowth of our work with communities to Close the Achievement Gap. Those communities that have built the strongest partnerships incorporated local business and philanthropic leaders into their partnerships, along with leaders from government agencies, nonprofits, social service agencies, and faith-based organizations. With the support of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, we used this opportunity to learn what has and has not brought leaders together across sectors in these communities.

Through interviews with key community leaders, we gained an in-depth understanding of the events, issues, practices, and philosophies that enhance or impede cross-sector relationships. These finding are compiled into a series of case studies.

Based on these findings, we developed tools and techniques to encourage cross-sector dialogue and help communities establish broad-based community partnerships.
